Jean Skirt - Simplicity 7111 (1975)

I decided that I would do a pattern review of the jean skirt I wore in my last "What I'm Wearing" post. I didn't plan on making this jean skirt, it only came about as I had enough left over fabric from my jeans. With AmandaBeth's Maid Marian Wardrobe event coming up, I though I would copy one of Marian's skirts in the BBC TV show Robin Hood for the big event.

::The Inspiration::

::My skirt::

::The Pattern::

Pattern: Simplicity 7111 c. 1975
Pattern Description: Misses skirt .

Pattern Sizing: My pattern was a size 14. The pattern is suppose to rest on your waist, but as mine is a little too big mine rests on my hips. So you can go a little bigger on the pattern size.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I had no problems what so ever.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern, super cute and stylish!

Fabric Used: A nice denim from Joann's. (It's the same as my Old Hollywood jeans.)

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Nope.

Would you sew it again? Yes!

Would you recommend it to others? Sure would, though I would warn that the skirt flaps open as it is a wrap skirt. I solved this problem by using a safety pin, I would eventually like to replace this with clasps, just like Marian's.

Where you can buy this pattern: I found size Size 10 and Size 8 online for sale for those interested in buying the pattern.

Vintage looks for Today....

I love clothing with a vintage flair. Anything from....well any time period is fine with me, so long as it isn't over done. I thought it would be fun to recreate some vintage inspired looks for today. I warn you that some of the pieces I used are expensive, so for those just look for cheaper versions. That is, if you if you want to recreate the look. =)

A 1950s Dior look for Today

A classic look of the "little black dress". Pair your black fabulous dress with some great heels. Add a layer pearl necklace and silver jewelry accents.  For a more vintage look add gloves!

Purple Spring

Floral shift dress, t-strap heels, unique headband, over-sized shades,  layered necklace, plus don't forget your clutch. And you are on your way to a vintage style that can look oh, so modern.

A Girl with a Bicycle

For the Summer wear a nice summer dress with heels. Add a large handbag and your handy shades to block the sun out of yours eyes. For you don't want to be blinded in such a stylish outfit!

Grace Kelly - Style 1

Pair a simple skirt with a top full of ruffles. Add flats that have a statement to them, pearl earrings, layered necklace, light-weight silky scarf, and a nice handbag.

Baby Blue - Audrey Hepburn

Belt your sundress, add a brooch, romantic looking earrings, heels or flats. And don't forget a statement necklace!

Skirts for Spring

Browsing through JCPenny I found some lovely skirts for Spring. Yes, I know these are dressy type skirts. But they are so cute! I really like the color block skirt (1st picture), as it is so different from most of my wardrobe.

I'm also delighted to see that pencil skirts are still "in". As I wanted one last Fall but never got around to buying/making one. :P

Do you like or dislike these skirt?

Me and Jo March

Growing up I was always a little tom-boyish. I enjoyed climbing trees, playing all sorts of sports. But, I also enjoyed reading through mountains of books, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and doing just about every craft there was. And I still enjoy doing all of these things.

With my two younger sisters, there are now four girls and one boy total, we would put on plays or sing in our singing group called, The Step Sisters because we all stood a head above each other. Besides singing and acting, I would also write and illustrate stories. My best stories being inspired by  Thornton Burgess, Brambly Hedge, and Curious George.

Today I'm more like how Jo was in New York - sewing and writing. Maybe I don't write as many stories as before. Instead I do something different - blog posts. Though once and awhile I write a story or two. ;-)

I didn't read Little Woman until I was 16. But after I first read it I fell in love with the March sisters. Since then I have read it several times, and learning something new each time.

Little Women of 2010 event

I forgot to mention in my last post on why I was doing a Little Women post. It is because there is a Little Women event going on this week hosted by Rebecca at A Young Lady's Blog

Read all about the event here.

See the other entries for the event here.

A Day at the Sun Moon Lake

For my birthday this year, hubby and I drove up to Sun Moon Lake for a little day trip. Hmm.. I think this was perhaps our first out-of-town trip since Guam. Wow, time really went by so fast!

Sun Moon Lake, together with the Taipei 101, and so many other popular destinations in Taiwain, ranks as one of the best known tourist spots, is a two-hour drive from our city. I still remember visiting this inland lake surrounded by mountains with my family when I was a little girl. We took a 30-min two way ferry to take in the beautiful mountain scenery at the lake. We also strolled along the lake and took pictures. But unfortunately we arrived too late to board the sky-booth for a bird's eye view of the moutain and the lake. Next time!

Hate that I look so bulky in the photos, but it was simplpy too chilly at the lake on that day.

Right before boarding the ferry.

The dock.

View of the lake from our ferry.
