I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas! I know I did. We had just a quite day at home. I read my new books over, and over again. :) And gazed at my new sewing patterns trying to find supplies to make them - and I did. The blessings of having a huge stash. :) I just need to buy boning and zippers.

And on Christmas Eve the Astaire & Rogers DVDs I won arrived in the mail! It was like receiving another Christmas present. I've already watched Shall We Dance and Follow the Fleet. 

So how was your Christmas? Right now, I'm making two 1780s dresses. One will be made out a white on white cotton fabric for a day dress. While the other one, will be made out the leftover fabric from my formal for a ball gown. :)  Also I can't wait to buy supplies to fix my hair in vintage styles - mostly 50s & 60s. :)

Last night on a whim I decided that I would curl my hair in a 40s style. Which is why we have a third "What I'm Wearing" post for this week. When I took my hair out of the curlers (the foam ones) I tried doing a Bettie Page bang, two victory rolls on the side, and my hair rolled up in the back. But that looked very 50s on me and the victory rolls didn't turn out so well. So I just brushed my hair out and clipped a flower on the side. Eventually I want to be able to do the victory rolls. Guess I'll have to keep practicing. :) For as you know, practice makes perfect. 

As some of you know, tonight is campout/movie night at my house. This evening my two of my sisters and I are planning on watching some Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney films. Like Girl Crazy, Thoroughbreads Don't Cry, and/or Babes on Broadway.

Jane Austen Tour - Marianne Dashwood Costume

Feelin' Feminine is hosting a Jane Austen tour (like my AOGG fashion week) and I will be joining in for a few days. =)

The first thing I will be sharing is my Marianne Dashwood outfit, that I copied from the 1995 version of Sense & Sensibility. 

::Inspiration::

I recreated this outfit of Marianne Dashwood back in 2008, for a trip to Williamsburg, VA. I only had one problem. I forgot to add sleeves to the pelisse! But it's OK, as it still works with out the sleeves. =) 

::Materials::

Patterns I used:
Elegant Ladies Closet Pattern - (Click here to view more details)
Regency Spencer Pelisse Pattern - (Click here to view more details)  - I changed the design of the Pelisse to match the one in the movie, Sense & Sensibility (1995).

Fabrics:

White strip voile for the dress and yellow broadcloth for the pelisse.

Now, these pictures are my Senior pictures. Which explanations how my hair suddenly got so long, and why I have different glasses on. =)

These pictures are definitely some of my favorite pictures. And don't you just the house in the background?!? A bunch of girls call it Pemberly, and we wish could live there. =)

This this outfit is the closest I have ever come to copying one of the costumes in the Anne of Green Gables movies. And even then, it was not on purpose. The fabrics I choose just happened to look a little like those Diana wears in the beginning of Anne of Avonlea.

See, the movie influenced me in my fabric choices and I didn't even realize it until others pointed it out to me. =)

AOGG Inspired Embroidered Apron

Hello everyone! As you all know, I have been an "Anne of Green Gables" mood all week. That what I picked up to sew this week has had some Anne influence. This is one of those projects, an AOGG inspired embroidered apron.  =)

Green Gables embroidered on one of the pockets.

Pattern: Sense & Sensibility Ladies' Edwardian Apron Pattern (So you all know I used the e-pattern version. Which is no different from the regular pattern, you just print the pattern out yourself at home. If you are hesitant about using an e-pattern do watch these videos. I found them most helpful.)  

Pattern Description: Ladies apron inspired from a 1910-1912 apron.

Pattern Sizing: 8-18. I made it in a size 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes! Though I added some changes, like embroidery. =)

Were the instructions easy to follow? Super easy. 

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It is an easy pattern that can be made in so many ways.

Fabric Used: A nice muslin from Joann Fabrics.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I added some embroidery, which I did free-hand. 

Would you sew it again? Yes! I love aprons, they are so useful.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes!

The New Sensibility.com Site! (Plus A Giveaway) Closed

Beatrix Shirtwaist 

In honor of the “new” sensibility.com, I have been given the chance to host a giveaway for an e-pattern from Sense & Sensibility Patterns. Sense & Sensibility Patterns have various historical patterns, ranging from the 1790s – 1940s. I own many of them myself (still missing a few), and can highly recommend them to anyone – even the beginner sewer can use these. Yes, some patterns are a higher level then others, but you can start out with the easier ones first (Beatrix Skirt, Regency Dress, Edwardian Apron) and work your way up. If you need help with the patterns there are always, her online classes (I’ve taken two) and a message board (I have found this most helpful) with ladies full of knowledge and experience.

1940s "Swing" Dress - Pattern Review

Pattern: 1940s "Swing" Dress Pattern from Sense and Sensibility Patterns. 

Pattern Description: The dress has a unique yoke with gathered shoulders, two sleeve options (short and “bracelet-length”), and gored skirt.

Pattern Sizing: 8-26 (I made a 10)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Easy as pie once you figure out how to sew the shoulder seam. And if you make more than one dress. =)

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Nothing. I love all of Sense and Sensibility patterns. As a side note, this pattern is drafted for a long-waist-ed gal. This is no problem for me as I'm long-waist-ed. Makes it that much easier to sew for me. :)

Fabric Used: Simply Silky (polyester) from Joann Fabrics.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Nope.

Would you sew it again? Yes!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes!
