Sew Through the Decades Challenge, Week Six: 1950's

Well, remember that 1950s pajama set I was making awhile back? I finally finished them. Even if they are a little late for the Sew Through the Decades Challenge on A Lemon Squeezy Home.  =) If you can't tell, I'm in a huge sewing mood right now. Which is great!

 Using "Ava Rose" fabric, vintage buttons, rick-rack from the 50s, and a vintage 1950s pattern. 

 

I love the finished result. Even though I did make a mistake with cutting out the fabric for the top. =)

Sew Through the Decades Challenge, Week Seven: 1960's

A Lemon Squeezy Home's, Sew Through the Decades Challenge is back! Well, it was back last week but I didn't get pictures until today. :p This week era was the 60's. I made this dress for my sister, Hanne-col.  Using out-of-print Simplicity 3559.  

This pattern was a piece of cake to use. Even with those long darts that I tend to not like to sew. Don't know why. I would highly recommend this pattern. Just check the finished length before you cut out your fabric. =) I does run short - remember it's the sixties.

The 1940s (Sewing Through the Decades Challenge)

This week for the Sewing Through the Decades Challenge it was the 1940s. And I had the perfect inspiration - a patchwork skirt! Looking through the book, Forties Fashion by Jonathan Walford I found these lovely pictures.





Taking those pictures for inspiration, I started sewing scraps of fabric together to create my very own patchwork skirt. And I must say, "I LOVE it!"  Someday I will recreate the shirt also.  =)

The Rorin' 20's (Sewing Through The Decades Challenge 1920-1929)

This week for the Sewing Through The Decades Challenge the era was the 1920s. I must confess something first, before 2008 I dislike the clothing of 1920s.  But after I was given a lace dress, that was in a 1920s style, I decided to make my first 20s dress. After that I have come to love the everyday 1920s style. I found out that really, I only disliked the high-end clothing of the era.

Since that dress I made back in 2008 is now too short (I grew taller). I decided that for the Sewing Through the Decades Challenge I was going to make myself a replacement dress.  With just some nice white muslin fabric, pins, "Lizzy" my dress-form, scissors, sewing books from the 1920s, and a little inspiration, I have come out with this lovely creation.

Next week (starting tomorrow) is the 1930s. I have no idea what I'm going to sew yet. Guess I will have look through my patterns and books. Or, do a search on the internet for the perfect thing. =)

1910-1919 Sewing Challenge - Edith Skirt

I made this skirt for two reasons. First, to sell on etsy. Second, to submit in A Lemon Squeezy Home's Sew Through The Decades challenge. During this challenge you try to sew something from a different decade each week (this week is 1910-1919). I'm hoping to sew something from every era. The challenge covers from 1900 to 2010. Let's see if I can do it. =)

::Inspiration::

Picture from Sense & Sensibility Patterns.

When I think of the 1910's layered skirts come to mind, as do hobble skirts. =) As this is what first came to my mind, I decided to draft a modern version of the 1910's skirts. Which you don't need to hobble in.  ;-)

::My Version::

Pattern: Drafted by me.  

Pattern Description: Ladies skirt inspired from 1910-1919 skirts.

Pattern Sizing: I made it in a size 10 (28" Waist 38 1/2" Hips).

Fabric Used: The polka-dot fabric is from Joann Fabrics. While the rose print fabric is from Hancock Fabrics. 

Would you sew it again? Yes! I love the style and it was easy to sew. Plus it has a elastic waist, which means no zipper.
